10% Light Blue pillows and accessories
Use cushions, pillows, and other accessories to choose a color from the overall scheme to accent with. Your color selections don't have to be an exact match, actually different color tones can work better as the finish look.
Each room should have a focal point, so don't dismiss the floor as a potential. A brightly colored floor does wonders in a room with simple, neutral colors. From palest colors to the deepest colors, every color has its most neutral shades. Find the one shade of that color that is the most versatile. For instance, if you've chosen blue, your goal is to select the most neutral shade of that blue. Look for the one color swatch that is influenced by all the primary colors.
After you've chosen your primary color don't forget the trim.
Use the very lightest shade of your primary color on your swatches when selecting a paint color for the trim. Paint your (base-boardes, built-ins, crown moldings, doors, and window sash); using a semi-gloss or eggshell paint finish. Unless your intention is to create a traditional look, I recommend keeping the trim color light. This will draw one's eyes to your windows and doors, rather than create a visual barrier. Darker trim colors, including natural wood, can often look too traditional, while light trim is fresh, crisp, and contemporary.
I recommend painting the ceiling in a flat finish or a matt finish. Introducing a rich color on the walls while leaving the ceiling white will make your room look as if you've spread a big bed-sheet over it. The ceiling will actually seem lower if left white. If the walls are nine feet or lower, paint the ceiling two shades lighter than your wall color. If your ceilings are higher, paint them one shade darker than the wall color. By using two shades of the same color for your walls and ceiling, the light will now reflect evenly throughout the room.
